Hot, Hot, Hot
It was so hot here today. A bunch of people went to the coast to escape the heat, others of us just swam in the pond and lay around in the coolest places we could find. At 6pm I checked the temperature on Sara and Darryl's front, east facing, porch and it was still 93. Normally here it cools down in the evening and the nights are nice and cool. Greta who has been staying here for the last week went to her tent at 3pm which is under a bunch of redwoods, not really old ones but still quite shady and cooler then surrounding areas and it was 96 there. It was much hotter during the day, or on the sunny side, or under less shade, and in the sun was way too much, but I am wimpy when it comes to heat. It felt quite a bit cooler at 6 than it had during the middle of the day, it was I am not sure how many degrees over 100.
The houses here stay pretty cool even when it is hot, lots of thermal mass and insulation. If it cools down at night the thermal mass really works well getting cool during the night then cooling the buildings down during the day. I lay in the sauna, which is insulated and shaded, its door had been left open a bit so it was not as cool as it would have been, but it was 75 or so when I got there at about 3 and 80 when I left, it was a great place to read.

Aria told me it was 108 degrees in the shade during the middle of the day.
