Goat Fence Moved

Yesterday I helped move the electric fence being used to contain the goats to a new location. We don't want to impact any one place too much and the area they were in for the last few weeks was getting pretty eaten. We moved them to right near the common house between the outside eating area and the pond. First we carried the small metal fence up to the new location and assembled it so we could put the goats in it and take apart the large fence. It was quite a trick getting the triplets to walk up to the new area. They are pretty scared of humans and their favorite place to be in the old fenced area was under a huge poison oak plant.

We then laid out the new fence and mowed under where it was to go and cut a few small trees to make sure nothing touches the fence and discharges it. Then pounded in the posts and poles to hold it up. It takes quite a bit of effort to move it.

They seem to like their new area, lots of stuff to eat and shade to lay in. It has been quite hot these last few days.

Milking is now behind the common house, quite near my tent. Jim, the man who came with the goats, brought an electric milking machine with him and we have been using it. That is him with the goats eating after being milked, part of the milking machine is hanging up above him. The milkers get fed when being milked, and then the mother of the triplets gets fed too because she needs to produce so much milk for them.
